“As we live and as we are, Simplicity – with a capital “S” – is difficult to comprehend nowadays. We are no longer truly simple. We no longer live in simple terms or places. Life is a more complex struggle now. It is now valiant to be simple: a courageous thing to even want to be simple. It is a spiritual thing to comprehend what simplicity means.” – Frank Lloyd Wright
MASA was established in 2004 with the simple and straight forward objective of coming together for the cause of Architecture Education. Architecture Education is at cross roads today. Role of an architect in the society is also changing. The services offered by an architect are specialized services now. The larger cross section of the society now has to be served by an architect. Architecture profession and an architect are now known to masses. This positive change needs to be absorbed immediately by the education system so that fresh architects are equipped to serve rationally to the society. The number of professionals to cater to this need have to be increased. More numbers of schools of architecture are now needed. The decade of nineties and the past decade have seen the dramatic increase in the number of schools of architecture in India and also in Maharashtra. The intake capacity of existing schools has also been increased. The fact that these fresh graduates are immediately employed by the construction industry itself proves that there is urgent need to further increase the number of schools of architecture.
At this juncture role of MASA is crucial by being vigilant in assuring transmission of quality in rchitecture education. That architects have a vital role to play in Nation Building is acknowledged by MASA. Thus attempt has always been made by MASA to invite teachers, students and scholars to discuss, deliberate, have dialogue and also to debate on the issues core to architecture education. With this as a focus various programmes have been formulated and executed by MASA in the past and will also be accomplished in the future. Teacher’s award programme is one such activity that is being conducted every year to appreciate the contribution of teachers, to encourage them and also to extend the platform for sharing experiences. Fellowship is awarded by MASA to research scholars of architecture. Announcement of few more very significant activities is made in this news letter.
MASA office is located in the picturesque premises. There are about 90 architecture institutions in Maharashtra out of which 50 institutions are already the Members of MASA . We invite all the remaining institutions to join the crusade by becoming the member of MASA as soon as possible and experience the strength and wonderful feeling of being together for the cause of architecture education.
